Memoria e Luce in Padova: Remembering 9/11/2001
There are not too much contemporary monuments in Padova, but one of the most important and impressive, is certainly that one called “Memoria e Luce” by Daniel Libeskind. This american architect is a worldwide celebrity and he thought for a great glass and steel framework to remembering the 9/11 victims.
The memorial is designed as an open and luminous book, featuring an orginal twisted steel beam salvaged from the wreckage of the World Trade Center that was donated by the US to the Veneto Region, and in turn to the city of Padua.
The project also includes the re-discovery of the historical walls creating a place that is both memorable and uplifting. This special place will glow day and night, and throughout the seasons of the year.
